Thanks to Pedro Fernández who identified a bug with the 128K versions of the game where no message was displayed for actions that failed and a big thank you to Sergio Chico for a swift bug fix despite it being Xmas eve. As a result, you can now enjoy being told you can't do that. 

The files available online now contain the fixed code.
